Ross Taylor has identified two other Indian players apart from Virat Kohli who pose a threat to the Kiwis

India’s tour of New Zealand gets underway on Wednesday, January 23 at the McLean Park in Napier. Both teams have won their previous limited-overs series against Australia and Sri Lanka respectively and would be in good stead ahead of the limited-overs fixtures. The Black Caps would be wary of Virat Kohli, the 30-year-old Indian captain, who has been in red-hot form in the last few years.

Ever since 2018, he has been leading the batting charts with 1355 runs at an average of 112.91. However, Ross Taylor, the experienced Kiwis batsman, reckons it’s easy to get carried away with Kohli. Rather, he wants his team to focus on Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, who have also been pivotal to a number of Indian triumphs over the last few years, especially in white-ball cricket, as well.

“He’s (Kohli) a sensational player, the best one-day player going around, easily. It’s easy to get caught up in him. You’ve got two pretty good openers at the top, Rohit (Sharma) and Shikhar (Dhawan), before he gets in,” Taylor was quoted as saying in stuff.co.nz.

As far as Ross is concerned, he scored 54, 90 and 137 against the Lankans in the ODI series. He notched 898 runs in 2018 in 14 matches with four half-centuries and a couple of tons. The right-hander had an average of 92 last year and Kohli was ahead of him after 14 matches. He mentioned that he’s clear about his role in the team and has made some changes in order to be consistently at the highest level.

“I’ve played a few internationals now and understand my role in the team. I’ve worked on my game and try and rotate the strike early and be as busy as I can. Different shots against spinners at different stages have maybe evolved my game in a positive way,” he added.
