Ross Taylor overtakes MS Dhoni in the list of batsmen with most T20 sixes
Taylor toppled the former Indian captain, playing for the Jamaica Tallawahs against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in this year's CPL.
MS Dhoni is one of the most brutal cricketers India have ever produced. Albeit his power-hitting prowess is on the wane, his contributions for Indian cricket can’t be undermined by any stretch of the imagination. His unflinching style of batting also makes him a brute force to reckon with in the T20 format. With 6075 runs in 297 T20s, he is one of the greats to have played the format.
Moreover, the wicketkeeper-batsman has a strike-rate of 136.18 and has smashed 267 sixes in T20 cricket, numbers which manifest his approach with the willow. Among Indians, he has whacked the second most number of sixes after Rohit Sharma, who has 313 sixes to his name. However, New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor recently overtook him in that department.
Taylor brushes aside Dhoni
The Kiwi batsman currently has 271 sixes in 248 matches in a career which started in 2006, the same year when Dhoni started his T20 career. Taylor toppled the former Indian captain, playing for the Andre Russell-captained Jamaica Tallawahs in their match against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in this year’s Caribbean Premier League. He was level with Dhoni at the start of the match.
Taylor whacked left-arm fast-bowler Sheldon Cottrell over backward point to get past Dhoni. Thereafter he went on to clear the ropes three more times to eventually score 51 runs. The knock lifted his team to 178 runs, which they comfortably defended by 47 runs. In the meantime, the Black Cap has the opportunity to add to the numbers as the Tallawahs still has quite a few matches left.
As far as hitting sixes is concerned. Chris Gayle, also known as the Universal Boss, tops the list with 857 from 338 matches. Most importantly, his figures are 320 more than that of his Windies teammate Kieron Pollard, who is second on the list. Gayle is also the only batsman to boast off 10,000+ runs (11,599) in the format.
