Roston Chase says they are well-prepared to counter Prithvi Shaw’s threat

Following a humiliating defeat in the first Test against India in Rajkot, West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase has said that the visitors are now better-prepared to tackle young Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw, who, with his century on debut, had set the platform for an onslaught on the Windies bowlers. Shaw was also awarded the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.

Speaking on the threat that the youngster can pose in the second Test, that is being played at Hyderabad, Chase said that since the bowlers were bowling to Shaw for the first time ever, they were not well versed with his batting technique. But now that they have got the hang of how he plays, they will bowl smartly in the second Test and not give away the game easily.

“I am sure our guys would have learnt quickly from what happened in the first Test and we will know some of the strengths of the young Shaw, who really took us apart early in the game. I am sure we will learn from our mistakes in the first game and move on smartly in the second game,” Chase said on the eve of the second Test.

New plans to counter Shaw 

He also mentioned that they have specific plans to counter Shaw but refused to talk much about it. “We had a long chat after the first Test and came up with some plans. We discussed how we are looking to bowl at him in the second Test along with some of the other batters. I can’t obviously discuss our plans in the conference. I think we have a better idea of what we are looking to do against him.”

In the first Test, Shaw, who plays for Mumbai in the domestic circuit, became India’s youngest player to score a debut century. He also became India’s second youngest in all Tests to hit a hundred. Tendulkar, with whom Shaw is often compared, was 17 when he made an unbeaten 119 against England in his ninth Test.
