Roston Chase in West Indies squad for the series against India
Courtney Browne, the WICB selection committee chairman has announced the West Indies squad for the 4-match Test series against India, with uncapped player Roston Chase. The 24-year-old Barbados cricketer is a middle-order batsman who can be handy with his off-spin.
Wicket-keeper batsman and former captain Denesh Ramdin has been left out of the squad despite his last two test innings of 59 and 62 against Australia in January 2016. 24-year-old wicket-keeping batsman Shane Dowrich will take his place. However, Dowrich failed to make it count in the first warm-up game against India as he had scored just 7 runs.
Leon Johnson is making a comeback to the national side as well. Johnson and Chase had a great run in West Indies regional first-class tournament for 2015-16. Chase’s inclusion comes in the wake of a strong domestic season in which he amassed 710 runs at an average of 59.16 and snared 23 wickets at 17.26. Whereas Johnson was the leading run-getter with 807 runs against his name at an average of 57.64.
WICB selectors also decided to leave out experienced campaigners Jerome Taylor and Kemar Roach because of their poor performance in the recently concluded tri-series featuring Australia and South Africa. West Indies lost to Australia in the final of the series.

The first Test starts at the Sir Vivian Richards International Stadium in Antigua from July 21.
