Former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood powered Durham to their second victory of the 2017 Royal London One-day Cup. His brilliant display with both bat and ball ensured a victory for Durham over Leicestershire. Put in to bat first, Leicestershire found themselves in serious trouble at 3/3 as both the openers were back in the hut without troubling the scorers. Paul Collingwood then ran through the opposition’s middle order.

He bagged three wickets, ending with figures of 3/42. He was well assisted by James Weighell, who picked up 4 wickets for just 34 runs. Durham’s bowlers restricted Leicestershire to 211 in the first innings. Had it not been for Zak Chappell’s unbeaten 52 at the back end of the innings, Leicestershire might have ended with a lot fewer runs on the board. A well-made 44 from Lewis Hill and Mark Cosgrove’s 37 were useful contributions for Leicestershire lower down the order.

With a target of 212, it was smooth sailing for Durham all through as opener Stephen Brook scored a brilliant 67. Michael Richardson brought up his fifty, while Paul Collingwood remained unbeaten on 65 to see his side home with as many as 6 overs in hand. In spite of wickets by Dieter Klein and Tom Wells, Leicestershire were unable to defend a low total.

Stephen Cook and Mark Richardson stitched a valuable 91-run partnership for the second wicket. Durham were always ahead of the asking rate. Stephen Cook then shared a 57-run stand with Collingwood, before he was dismissed by Wells.

In his 60-ball 65, Collingwood creamed 7 boundaries and smashed 2 big sixes. The all-rounder got off to a slow start, but then accelerated after a sighter out in the middle. He took on Klein in the 35th over to smash him for consecutive boundaries – a four followed by a maximum. Collingwood eventually steered Durham over the finish line with 40 balls to spare.

Brief scores:

Leicestershire: 211 in 49.5 overs (Zak Chappell 59*, Lewis Hill 44; James Weighell 4-34, Paul Collingwood 3-42)

Durham: 215/5 in 43.2 overs (Stephen Cook 67, Paul Collingwood 65*; Dieter Klein 2-37, Tom Wells 2-43)
