RP Singh and wife Devanshi blessed with a baby boy, former India pacer announces on Twitter
In a national career spanning more than a decade, Singh scalped 116 wickets in Tests and 104 in ODIs.
Former India pacer RP Singh took it to Twitter to announce that he has been blessed with a baby boy. The pacer tagged his wife Devanshi in his tweet and shared the news with his fans and followers.
Singh, in no time, was showered with wishes from the cricket fraternity. Many former India cricketers including Aakash Chopra and Pragyan Ojha wished him on this happy moment.
“With the grace of God, @DevanshiS_ and I are delighted to announce the birth of our baby boy,” wrote 34-year-old Singh on Twitter. RP Singh had tied the knot with Devanshi Popat in 2012. They also were blessed with a daughter in 2017 whom they named ‘Ira Aarya Singh’.
RP Singh represented India in 14 Tests and 58 ODIs
After donning the Indian jersey in 14 Tests and 58 ODIs, Singh bid adieu to international cricket in September 2018. In a national career spanning more than a decade, Singh scalped 116 wickets in Tests and 104 in ODIs.
The left-arm pacer first broke into the ODI squad in 2005 against Zimbabwe and earned his Test call up in 2006 against Pakistan. Singh dazzled in his third ODI by taking four wickets and rattling Sri Lanka to a modest total of 196. He was also adjudged Man of the Match for his scintillating bowling spell. In 8.5 overs, he took 4 wickets while conceding 35 runs and bowling two maidens too. He even won the Man of the Match award on his debut after taking 5 wickets in the match.
Singh was also a part of India’s victorious campaign in the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa. He emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker in the showpiece event, plucking 12 wickets in 7 matches at an average of 12.66.
His last appearance for India was in 2011 against England. Amid his truancy from international cricket, the pacer continued to play for various IPL franchises. Starting his IPL journey with Deccan Chargers, Singh was associated with Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rising Pune Supergiant.
In 2015, he switched from UP to Gujarat in the domestic circuit. In 94 First-class matches, the pacer scalped 301 wickets including 12 five-wicket hauls. Post his retirement, Singh has taken up TV commentary as well and has made regular appearances on live broadcasts.
