Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) met only 5 times in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in which the Super Giants have won only once. In the recently concluded clash, the Royals defeated the Super Giants in the 44th match of the IPL 2024.
Lucknow Super Giants finished third in their maiden IPL season with nine wins and five losses in 14 games played. They lost against RCB in the eliminator and were knocked out of the race. Same happened with them in 2023 as they were knocked out in the eliminator again. LSG failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2023.
Rajasthan Royals secured the fifth position with a total of 14 points, achieved through seven victories and defeats, narrowly missing out on a playoff spot by just two points in the IPL 2023 season. Yashasvi Jaiswal emerged as the fifth-highest run-scorer of the tournament, amassing a total of 625 runs, while Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson both exceeded the 300-run milestone. RR started the season very strongly but lost their way towards the end to lose in the second qualifier.

LSG were struck early blows, in the powerplay, but KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda pulled it back with fifties in an innings where extras was the next highest scorer and helped LSG to 196. Jos Buttler started strongly in the powerplay in the chase, and his dismissals brought a phase of RR losing 3 wickets for just 18 runs in 3 overs. But Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel scored 50s that took RR home with an over to spare.
