Bangladesh emerged triumphant in the opening match of the Asia Cup against Sri Lanka by 137 runs at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The occurring took place in the third delivery of the 42nd over. Malinga trapped Rubel Hossain in front and the on-field umpire happily obliged. At that point in time, Bangladesh were on 202 runs with Rahim batting on 95 runs from 120 balls.

After resorting to the DRS it was learned that the ball was missing the stumps and hence the original decision was reversed. The partnership went on to add 29 vital runs in the next four overs, mostly due to some lusty blows from the 31-year-old batsman from Bogra.

Rubel eventually scored two runs from 12 deliveries after which Dhananjaya de Silva got him Leg Before Wicket (LBW). Bangladesh went on to score 261 runs, which turned out to be a bridge too far for the Lankans. Rubel bowled only four overs and conceded 18 runs along with the wicket of Angelo Mathews, the opposition captain.
