Russel Arnold praises Niroshan Dickwella for his attitude, Twitterati unimpressed
The match ended in a draw after Sri Lanka were reduced to 75/7.
The former Sri Lankan cricketer Russell Arnold praised Niroshan Dickwella for his attitude and approach in the ongoing second innings against India. The Test match has turned on its head on the final day thanks to a splendid century from Virat Kohli which allowed his bowlers to have a short burst at the Lankan batsmen. However, Twitterati wasn’t impressed at all with the batsman with his arrogance and trolled Arnold in the process.
The hosts, after setting a target of 231 in front of the visitors, scalped quick wickets in the tricky period before tea time and reduced them to 2-2. The onslaught of the bowlers continued in the final session as well as India picked key wickets of Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews. But then Dinesh Chandimal and Niroshan Dickwella formed the partnership to frustrate Indians.
What prompted Arnold to tweet?
The things heated up when the batsman Dickwella smashed a delivery from Mohammed Shami out of the ground and informed the umpire to signal the no-ball as India had three fielders behind square on the leg-side which is not allowed. However, Indians were not at all pleased with the batsman prompting the umpire and had a go at Dickwella. Soon the banter started between him and Kohli along with Shami.
Moreover, Dickwella started to delay things a bit by wasting time to take strike. The hosts did not like his attitude which fired up the bowler and had a serious go at him with the umpires having to intervene. Even Dickwella was seen advising his captain Chandimal about letting the time pass by according to the commentators on air. The actions from Dickwella were surely not correct given the situation of the match and he should have played with skills rather than wasting the time in the middle.
Arnold, on the other hand, was strangely impressed with the wicket-keeper batsman and was trolled by the Twitter hilariously.
