Russell Arnold defends Sri Lankan players with an epic tweet; gets brutally trolled
Sri Lankan players were seen wearing pollution mask while fielding.
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews needed pollution mask while fielding but he came out to bat without it. The 3rd Test match between India and Sri Lankan was stopped for about 17 minutes due to smog in Delhi. Many of the cricketers including touring sides’ skipper Dinesh Chandimal were seen wearing the mask to avoid damage.
It was a rare incident in the cricket field, as the crowd got to witness Sri Lankan team manager, India’s head coach and certain officials come out to the field to have a word with the umpires. Chandimal and his side wanted to go back to their dressing room as the quality of air was deteriorating.
But game resumed and Ravichandran Ashwin departed in no time. Indian Skipper Virat Kohli, who scored a brilliant double hundred was dismissed soon and he went back for 243. This was Kohli’s second consecutive double ton and he has now six to his name.
Arnold replies back in style
India declared on 536/7 and Sri Lanka ended the day on 131/3. A fan tweeted saying “Awesome observation by @sanjaymanjrekar. Player (@Angelo69Mathews) who needed mask while fielding has come out to bat without a mask. #IndvSL @RusselArnold69 any comments? @bhogleharsha request you to ask him the q’n again”
Arnold’s reply to the tweet was pure gold, he gave a funny yet sensible reference by saying “Didn’t see any of the Indian batsmen wear sunnies when batting.. they wear them while fielding … same Sun na”
Manjrekar is yet to respond to the tweet and it will be fun to see an off-field banter. On the field, Chandimal’s boys will look to avoid the follow-on first and then go about building their innings. India on the other hand, will look to wrap up the game without having another go with the bat.
