Russell Domingo, the South African coach is likely to shift his base, after his contract was not extended, following South Africa’s crushing defeat at the hands of England in the recently concluded Test series. But Domingo doesn’t need to be a worried man. It has been reported that the current Proteas coach is the favourite to be named as the head coach of the Pretoria franchise in the inaugural season of the T20 Global League.

According to reports, two former Proteas players, Lance Klusener and Neil McKenzie, will be Domingo’s assistants. Klusener has previously worked as the coach with Dolphins, whereas Neil McKenzie has been South Africa’s batting coach for some time. AB de Villiers is the marquee player for the side and they will soon reveal their official name for the tournament. Interestingly, there are also rumours that former Proteas wicketkeeper and current Titans coach, Mark Boucher, will be named as the coach of the Port Elizabeth franchise on Wednesday.

Gibson set to replace Domingo

England’s current bowling coach Ottis Gibson is almost set to replace Domingo. South African skipper Faf du Plessis has backed the choice and he recently told the reporters that he is confident of having Gibson in the coaching set up. “It’s been told to us that the decision has been made by the coaching panel,” du Plessis said.

“They’ve chosen Ottis Gibson as their recommendation and now …the board decides whether they want to use that recommendation or not,” the skipper said he had already done extensive homework on his potential new coach.

Gibson will remain with the England side until the end of the ongoing Test series against West Indies. The hosts have won the 1st Test under the captaincy of Joe Root. It has been reported that Gibson will soon be unveiled as the coach of the South African side but he will be in the English camp till the 3rd Test match, starting from September 7.
