Ruturaj Gaikwad has emerged as one of the most promising batting talents in Indian cricket. Showcasing his potential across formats, Gaikwad has steadily built a reputation as a dependable and stylish batsman. His journey began with his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut on September 22, 2020, against Rajasthan Royals in Sharjah.
Gaikwad continued to shine in the IPL, proving his mettle as a consistent performer. His breakthrough season came in 2021 when he played a pivotal role for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Following his impressive performances in the IPL, Gaikwad earned his maiden call-up to the Indian national team on July 28, 2021, against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Despite playing only 26 innings for India across formats, Gaikwad has managed to leave a mark. His only international century came in the T20I format against Australia on November 28, 2023, in Guwahati. Although his international record is still developing, his performances in the IPL have been exceptional. He averages a healthy 41.75 with a strike rate of 136.86.
Gaikwad has also demonstrated his ability to play big innings, smashing two IPL centuries—one against Rajasthan Royals in 2021 and another in 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants. His stellar performance in the 2021 IPL season earned him the prestigious Orange Cap as he amassed 635 runs, leading CSK to championship glory with his remarkable batting. He played a crucial role in guiding the team from the front, showcasing his leadership skills.
