Former Australian pace bowler Ryan Harris has been named as the Australian bowling coach for the team’s upcoming ODI tour of South Africa. He will join the coaching staff of Darren Lehmann (Head coach) and David Saker (assistant coach).
Harris, who retired from international cricket is currently assistant coach of the National Performance Squad in the A-team quadrangular series in Australia. Last season, he was also the under-19 cricket coach for Australia.
“It’s a great experience to learn from David Saker and Darren Lehmann,” Harris said of the appointment. “I’m really just going to sit back and watch and learn.”
He said that he will work hard to become the full-time bowling coach of the national side. “Eventually, I’d like to work my way to the top and become a [full-time] bowling coach of the Australian team one day. Just like playing, you have to earn your stripes and learn the ropes,” said Harris, who bagged nine wickets in the debut Test series in New Zealand in 2010.
