S Sreesanth aims to represent India in the 2023 World Cup
Sreesanth is all set to make his comeback in competitive cricket after being named among the Kerala probables for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.
S Sreesanth, the tainted Indian fast bowler, at the age of 37, hasn’t given up on his hopes of playing for the national team. In fact, the veteran has set his goals of representing the Men in Blue in the 2023 edition of the World Cup on Indian soil. Having last played for India back in 2011, the speedster is willing to draw inspiration from the likes of Leander Paes and Roger Federer.
After the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League, Sreesanth’s career went into the doldrums due to the spot-fixing scandal in the T20 tournament. His suspension period ended in September and he is eager to stake his claim back among the big boys. He is now hoping to help Team India win the World Cup with his bowling prowess.
I like to create history, says S Sreesanth
“It is true that it is the kind of age when there is nothing much left to achieve in sports. But then, someone like Leander Paes won a grand slam at 42. Roger Federer is another case in point,” Sreesanth was quoted as saying in The Times of India.
“As a fast bowler, I will be creating history but then, I like to create history. I am not just looking at the season ahead but at the next three years. My real goal is to be in the 2023 World Cup team and win the cup,” he stated.
Sreesanth is all set to make his comeback in competitive cricket after being named among the Kerala probables for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. He will be joining their training camp where he will be rubbing shoulders with Sanju Samson, India’s promising young wicketkeeper.
“Our first match will be at the Wankhede stadium where I had played my last India match, so life is coming full circle. Kerala has never won this tournament but we have a very good team now. I am excited to be part of this unit and also play under the guidance of coach Tinu Yohannan,” Sreesanth added.
When he forayed into international cricket, Sreesanth was deemed as a bright prospect. He was mostly known for his upright seam position. The pacer was also a part of Team India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup-winning squads.
