The ‘Balidan badge’ that MS Dhoni sported on his wicket-keeping gloves during the game against South Africa has sparked a major controversy. The ICC had raised objections about the same and wanted the symbol to be removed off the former skipper’s gloves. The apex cricket council also wrote to the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) about the same. Ever since this matter has come into the light, there have been several opinions about the same and former cricketer S Sreesanth also shared his thoughts.

As a part of the latest developments, the BCCI sought permission from the ICC to allow MS Dhoni to wear the same gloves. Sreesanth also came in support of his former teammate and absolutely lashed out at the ICC for their gesture. The fast bowler demanded an apology not only to MS Dhoni but to the entire nation.

We all know how patriotic the man is!

Sreesanth pointed out that MS Dhoni is an honorary lieutenant colonel with the parachute regiment. He even mentioned that the former skipper is extremely patriotic towards his country and added that he single-handedly won matches for India. He even urged the rest of the country to come in support of MS Dhoni.

“ICC should be apologizing not just to MS Dhoni but the entire country. This is not the way to dictate terms with the country that is literally ruling Indian cricket. With Dhoni being an honorary lieutenant colonel with the parachute regiment, we all know how patriotic that man is. He single-handedly wins matches for India,” he said as quoted by India Today.

Sreesanth seemed to be confident that the ICC will withdraw their objections about the symbol on Dhoni’s gloves. He further mentioned that he felt extremely proud when he saw the 37-year-old sport the ‘Balidan badge’. Sreesanth even wants MS Dhoni to continue wearing the same gloves throughout the World Cup.

Team India will be playing their next game against Australia on 9th June 2019. While it seems to be uncertain if MS Dhoni would wear the same gloves during this game, the BCCI is likely to push hard to convince ICC in the interim.
