Sanju Samson has been in the Indian cricketing circuit for quite some time now. He made his debut for the national team in Zimbabwe way back in 2015, but is yet to get a game ever since. He has a couple of centuries in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but his List A numbers don’t quite justify the talent he possesses. Hence, he has never been able to break into the Indian side.

He had a task ahead of him before the start of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy as he had no century to his name in the 50-overs format. However, as the tournament has gone by, the Kerala-born has gone on to weave magic. He got quite a few starts to begin his campaign, but wasn’t able to convert any of them. Nevertheless, he came into his own in the match versus Goa in Alur.

Samson lights up Alur

After Kerala won the toss and elected to bat first, Sanju Samson pummeled the opposition bowling with a knock of 212 runs off 129 balls with the help of 21 boundaries and 10 sixes. The knock helped his team rack up 377 on the board. Kerala went on to win the match by 104 runs. Following his knock, Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor congratulated him on the wonderful show.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “In transit in Frankfurt on the way to the @IPUparliament meeting in Belgrade when i get the news that Thiruvananthapuram’s own Sanju Samson has hit 200 in a Vijay Hazare 50 over game! Ten sixes, 20 fours. Don’t know if our white-ball selectors were watching?!,”

In the meantime, the tweet didn’t go down well with S Sreesanth by any means. He was unhappy as Tharoor called Samson as ‘Thiruvananthapuram’s own’. Sreesanth reminded him that Samson is a great Indian. He also praised Samson on the knock.

He replied to Tharoor and wrote, “Sir..,Don’t tag him as just a Trivandrum boy..he is Malayalam”s proud son and a great INDIAN. He is gonna make all of us proud very soon by scoring big and better in internationals @where he belongs..let’s hope and give him the best support .. @IamSanjuSamson
