After a dismal and disappointing loss to the visiting Australian team in the first Test match, the host South African side walked themselves in the second Test in a quest to level the scoreline in the four-match Test series. The first session brought down the confidence of the Proteas team, but they fought back magnificently to rattle the Aussie for 243 runs in the first innings.
However, one of the most experienced South African batsman AB de Villiers came to the party firing high on all cylinders to power the run chase for his team by scoring a stunning and extraordinary hundred in that effort.

For the Proteas, it was young quick bowler Kagiso Rabada who bowled a terrific spell of fast bowling and secured his eighth five-wicket haul in Tests by knocking out the Aussie batting line-up. After this amazing effort, opener Dean Elgar and the experienced Hashim Amla handled the fire-packed Aussie bowling line-up by displaying the classical style of Test cricket in which they stitched a partnership of 88 runs which continued for a crucial period of almost 45 overs dispersing out the troubles laid by the opposition team. But after Amla’s dismissal, de Villiers came to the crease to take his team towards a crucial first innings lead.
AB de Villiers’ wife Danielle de Villiers posted a congratulatory message on her Instagram account wishing the husband on reaching to his historic milestone of 22 Test hundreds. The post portrayed an iconic picture featuring the veteran South African batsmen along with a hand down emotion added to make the significance of the message come into the feeling.
De Villiers played a heroic unbeaten knock of 126 runs which included 20 fours and a six, which imposed some serious pressure and fear on the opposition team’s bowlers. At the back of his defiant contribution, the hosts took an important 139 runs lead in the first innings to stake their claims riding in the driver seat position in this second Test match.
