Quinton de Kock had shockingly announced his Test retirement last month after South Africa’s 113-run loss in the first Test at Centurion but, he silenced all his critics with an impressive 79 against India in the second ODI on Friday. However, it seems as if the wicketkeeper batter had saved his best for the last as he notched up a spectacular century in the dead-rubber third ODI at Newlands Cricket Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday.

After being reduced to 34/2 in just the sixth over, de Kock took matters into his own hands as he took the Indian bowlers to the cleaners at regular intervals and kept the scoreboard ticking for the hosts. Such was his impact that the run-rate kept on increasing at a brisk rate and he ended up breaching the three-figure mark in no time. He also found support in Rassie van der Dussen as the duo added 144 runs for the fourth wicket.

As the opener scored yet another century against the Men In Blue, his better half Sasha came up with a heartwarming gesture for him on social media. Sasha posted an image of her holding their newborn daughter Kiara near their television as an Instagram story and captioned it as ‘Well Done Daddy!’ with a heart emoji.

Quinton de Kock went on to score 124 runs and his knock included 12 boundaries and a couple of maximums before being dismissed by his former Mumbai Indians teammate Jasprit Bumrah.

After both the wicketkeeper batter and Rassie van der Dussen were dismissed in quick succession, the middle-order batters including the likes of David Miller (39) and Dwaine Pretorious (20) chipped in with some precious runs. Unfortunately, the others failed to make an impact as the Proteas could not surpass 300 and were bundled out for 287 with a ball to spare.

Emerging pacer Prasidh Krishna was the pick of the bowlers for India with figures of 3/59 from his 9.5 overs at an economy rate of six whereas Deepak Chahar and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah registered two scalps each. The Men In Blue would be expecting the middle-order to come out all guns blazing as they look to avoid a whitewash.
