After failing to make an impact in the first ODI against South Africa, Rishabh Pant silenced his critics with a quickfire 71-ball 85 in the following game. The wicketkeeper batter was expected to once again play an impactful knock in the dead-rubber third ODI at Newlands, Cape Town but, failed miserably as he was dismissed for a golden duck.
As a gutted Pant took a long walk to the pavilion, Virat Kohli did not shy away from expressing his disappointment and the video of his reaction has now gone viral.
This happened on the final ball of the 23rd over bowled by Andile Phehlukwayo. Rishabh Pant who had just arrived at the crease decided to make a statement straight away as he advanced down the wicket and played a rash shot. Unfortunately, there was neither timing nor did the ball go any distance as it ended up finding Sisanda Magala in the deep instead of clearing the boundary.
Virat Kohli angrily stares at Rishabh Pant after the latter’s dismissal
This did not go down well with Virat Kohli and he was seen staring at the youngster angrily for needlessly throwing away his wicket to put the visitors in a spot of bother. India had lost the wicket of a set Shikhar Dhawan before Pant had walked out to the middle but even he could not last long.
The former Indian skipper and the opener had laid a solid foundation for the Men In Blue with a 98-run stand for the second wicket after losing stand-in captain KL Rahul early and therefore, the batting megastar had all the reasons to be disappointed with Pant’s recklessness in the crunch moments of the game.

Earlier, a vital 124 from opener Quinton de Kock had propelled the hosts to 287. The wicketkeeper batter made it matter for the Proteas after they had lost a couple of early wickets. India would be hoping to chase down the target and sign off with a consolation win, While a win here would help Rahul & Co. avoid a whitewash, South Africa would be looking to register a clean sweep by having the last laugh.
