Sachin calls me superstar which is a little embarrassing: Yuvraj Singh
Among the many inspirational stories in Indian cricket folklore, that of Yuvraj Singh and his battle against cancer will remain one of the best fightbacks and triumphs. The left-hander was in the prime of his form and fitness when he discovered a cancer in his lungs; though that didn’t prevent him from leading the team to their second World Cup title. He defeated the disease but it took along a good couple of years of his career.
The star is back with the Men in Blue after working hard on his fitness, following a strict diet regime and scoring tons of runs in domestic cricket. Yesterday when the team was in deep trouble and in dire need of something stand out to pull them out of troubles Yuvraj along with his most successful partner MS Dhoni. Both the batsmen scored hundreds and Yuvi recorded his highest ODI score of 150; for Team India’s win he was awarded the Man of the Match award.
After the match while talking to BCCI.tv Yuvraj said, “It is tough when you go through a phase like this in your life and then strive to come back to where you belong. A person in his mid-30s needs to do an extra bit to regain his fitness,”
Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar who Yuvi respects like a father figure tweeted right after he got to his hundred and called him a superstar. Responding to Sachin’s message Yuvi said, “He always calls me a superstar, which is a little embarrassing in front of him, but I always take his wishes whenever I am starting my international career again. Thank you so much Mr. Tendulkar for your wishes, I think they worked really well today.”

Sachin in the same tweet also referred to former Indian skipper MS Dhoni as a rockstar who also scored a hundred in the match and played a perfect partner to Yuvi. The duo added 256 runs together and set the team up for the massive 381 that they managed in their quota of overs.
“MS and I have been batting together for a while and he played a sensational knock. We have a great understanding in between the wickets and today we discussed what was happening on the field and it turned out to be a great partnership in the middle.” Yuvraj said.
He had to fight to odds, while many felt his time at the international level was over the southpaw continued to improve his skills, every aspect that contributes to his cricket and kept grinding to get a recall and made it count with the hundred in Cuttack.
“Emotions are very hard to describe as it has been a while and I was not being able to get 100 runs on the board. I worked very hard over the years, worked on my fitness, on my diet. It took me a long time to come back and show that I can still play international cricket. It was very important that I proved that to myself because there is very less self-belief outside.” An emotional Yuvraj Singh said.
He scored his highest ODI score and termed it one of his best knocks. “One of my best knocks in one-day cricket. 150 is a big score for any batsman and I’m very proud to get that. Hopefully, I can continue to do well with whatever I am left with.” He said.
