Sachin Tendulkar amazed by Team India's win praises Dinesh Karthik and Rohit Sharma
Team India won the match by 4 runs and with that, lifted the trophy.
Dinesh Karthik will remain a hero in India for a long time after the innings he played today against Bangladesh in the Nidahas Trophy 2018 finale. Against all the odds comes out this 32-year-old from Tamil Nadu to play the innings of his life and got a billion people to cheer at the end of it. That was a truly special inning from a wonderful talent.
Even the legendary Sachin Tendulkar was in awe of the performance from this young and exuberant contingent. Tendulkar specifically complimented the efforts of Dinesh Karthik, who remained unbeaten on 29 off 8 balls and also the skipper Rohit Sharma, who scored a fantastic fifty. Rohit registered 56 runs off 42 balls and gave India a brilliant start in the run chase.
The entire country is ecstatic with this performance and why not? This is at par with all those sensational finishes MS Dhoni gave the team over the years. A very jubilant Tendulkar wrote in his tweet, “Amazing victory by Team India. Superb batting by Dinesh Karthik. A great knock by Rohit Sharma to set the platform. What a finish to a final!”.
A sensational run chase from the Indians
Chasing 166 runs, Team India got off to a flying start with Rohit going bonkers in the first few overs. He received great support from the likes of KL Rahul, who too got a good start and their partnership kept India in the driver’s seat. But things changed drastically once Rahul and Rohit were dismissed in quick succession.
The required rate kept creeping up – Vijay Shankar and Manish Pandey were failing to keep up with that rate. Mustafizur conceded just 1 run in the 18th over, the culprit was Vijay Shankar. Off the final ball in that over, Manish Pandey was dismissed and in walked Karthik, who should’ve batted way ahead than he did. India needed 34 runs in the final 2 overs at that stage.
He firstly clobbered 2 sixes and 2 fours in the 19th over of Rubel Hossain. After yielding 22 runs in that over, Soumya Sarkar did his best in the final over and brought the equation down to 5 runs in 1 ball. Karthik then smashed a six off the last ball and sent the entire team into celebrations. The Bangla players were distraught, but they came very close to lifting the trophy.
