Sachin Tendulkar asks Prithvi Shaw to continue batting fearlessly
He praised Shaw after taking to Twitter.
Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw has had a dream debut in India’s opening Test against the Windies at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. He showed no signs of nervousness whatsoever and took on the bowling attack without nurturing any sort of inhibitions. The 18-year-old along with KL Rahul opened the batting after India won the toss and elected to bat first.
Shannon Gabriel nipped out Rahul for a duck in the very first over, but it didn’t unnerve Shaw by any stretch of the imagination. He played some awe-inspiring strokes early in his knock while Cheteshwar Pujara, at the other end, put his head down to occupy the crease. The Thane-born cricketer went on to accomplish his half-century in a mere 56 deliveries.
Shaw impressed in his debut
Thereafter, he buckled down to convert the knock. Pujara lent him the appropriate support and Shaw could express himself without much fuss. In the opening ball of the 33rd over, he played a dot-ball off fast bowler Keemo Paul, but in the very next delivery, he accomplished his century in 99 deliveries with a graceful drive through the cover region for a couple of runs.
Subsequently, he became the youngest Indian batsman to score a century on Test debut. Earlier, he became the second youngest Indian to make a Test debut after Vijay Mehra in 1955. The pugnacious potential perished after scoring 134 runs from 154 balls with the help of 19 boundaries. Leg-break bowler Devendra Bishoo dismissed him in the 51st over.
In the meantime, Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian cricketer, was awestruck by Shaw’s masterclass in Rajkot. He praised him after taking to Twitter. The Master Blaster also asked Shaw to continue playing attacking cricket. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Lovely to see such an attacking knock in your first innings, @prithvishaw! Continue batting fearlessly. #INDvWI,”
