Former Indian captain and Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar attended the Air Force Day celebrations on Sunday being the Honorary Group captain. The Indian Air Force has completed 85 years of formation on 8th October and celebrated its meteoric rise over the years in the presence of various dignitaries like the honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat and others.
IAF boasts to be one of the finest across the globe and its complement of personnel and aircraft assets ranks fourth amongst the air forces of the world. The highest run scorer in the history of Tests and ODIs saluted the sacrifices made by the army personnel in guarding the aerial boundaries of the country. The parade was conducted at the Hindon Air Force base in Ghaziabad on Sunday.
Sachin Tendulkar was made the honorary group captain at the 83rd IAF day in 2015. He became the first ever sportsperson to receive this honour and said his son Arjun Tendulkar had a particular admiration for the IAF. There were rumours of him flying the Sukhoi Jet back then, which he ruled out in a press conference.
A salute to the courageous services
Air Force is one of the most admired groups in the country and from kids to elders, there are a lot of people who wish to be a part of this marvellous bunch of courageous personalities, who risk their lives to ensure peace and prosperity don’t vanish in the society.
Arguably the greatest cricketer to have graced the gentlemen’s game, Tendulkar too expressed his gratitude for the group with a special tweet.
“I extend my warm greetings to all the Air Force personnel and their families. We truly appreciate your innumerable sacrifices which served to protect us during war and peace times and not to forget, during disasters. We salute you air warriors, may you touch the sky with glory,” said Tendulkar in a special video posted on Twitter.
