Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara react after Road Safety World Series gets postponed due to Covid-19

The ongoing threat of the pandemic that is the novel Coronavirus has put a screeching halt to the sporting events around the world. Most of the global events including La Liga and the NBA has been put on hold. On the cricketing front, the likes of India-South Africa and Australia-New Zealand ODI rubbers are being played behind closed doors, the Asia XI vs World XI fixtures and the Road Safety World series has been put on hold.

The Road Safety series- a tournament involving retired cricketers from India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Australia, and West Indies- was steadily progressing into its second half but the escalating situation with regards to the Coronavirus- especially in Maharashtra– has forced the organizers to call off the event.

The organizers of the event, in a statement, revealed that the remaining matches of the tournament will be staged at a viable time in the future. Commenting on the development, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar said that he is disappointed that the tournament is postponed but at the time asserted that it is the right decision, considering the gravity of the situation.

Legends express their views on the postponement of Road Safety series

“The rescheduling of this series, held to create awareness about Road Safety, is unfortunate yet the right step. We all hope and pray that the spread of novel coronavirus is contained,” Sachin Tendulkar, captain of India Legends, was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The Prince of Trinidad and Tobago Brian Lara also echoed Tendulkar’s views and said– “The situation is a little disappointing now but we are looking forward to come back and take part in the remaining games of the series.”

“People are hungry for cricket, they are hungry to see legends, like (Virender) Sehwag and Sachin (Tendulkar), when they come out to play cricket. So I think this tournament was awesome. The competition was even more than I expected. It was very special, seeing Sachin back on the field again and seeing the crowd reaction,” Lara added.

Sri Lanka Legends wicket-keeper Romesh Kaluwitharana also expressed his disappointment at the current development but is hopeful that things will get better in the future, paving way for them to come back to complete the series.

 “While I am a bit little disappointed looking at the current situation, but I am glad that the organizers are taking the necessary steps to ensure everything is under control. I am looking forward for things to work out fine at the earliest so that we can come back and finish this series,” he said.
