Indian skipper Mithali Raj has been one of India’s best players in the Women’s World Cup, if not the best player. Days after the Indian skipper crowned herself as the highest run-scorer in Women’s cricket, many cricketers have praised her for her stupendous record.

One among those who appreciate Mithali for her contribution to Indian cricket and women’s cricket in large is Indian cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar. The right-hander has sent a heartful message to Mithali, on his social media accounts while also wishing the rest of the team best of luck for the crucial semi-final clash against Australia. Tendulkar said that he had spoken with Mithali, adding that she is a “tremendous athlete” and it is always “amazing” to watch her play.

The Master Blaster then went on to share a small incident as Mithali started to play the game, with persuasion from her father. Mr Raj took her to his son to the cricket academy early every morning to combat her habit of sleeping late every night. This is exactly what Sachin had put on Facebook after Mithali went past the record for most runs in women’s cricket.

Sachin’s Message for Mithali

“MEET Mithali Raj: Her father, retired Air Force Sergeant Dorai Raj, wanted to combat 8-year-old Mithali’s habit of sleeping in late every morning. So, he took her along with him to her brother’s Cricket coaching sessions early every morning. If anyone had told 8-year-old Mithali Raj that one day she would grow up to break a world record in Women’s ODI Cricket, she may or may not have believed it. All it takes is a moment when talent is recognised and steered in the right direction. It was great speaking with you yesterday, Mithali. You are a tremendous athlete and it’s always amazing to watch you play. Keep up the great work!”
