The ongoing proliferation of the novel pandemic that is the Coronavirus has sent alarm bells ringing around the world. More than half a million people have already been infected by the virus, which originated from the Wuhan City of China late last year. The entire world is under lockdown as people practice self-isolation in order to avert the proliferation of the menace that is COVID-19.

With almost everything under lockdown, the biggest sufferers are the have nots, who do not have the luxury of stocking up their inventory in such times of crisis. And, hence, in a bid to support them, public figures from all walks of life are coming forward by contributing their bit towards the relief fund.

And, the latest to join the bandwagon is Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who, according to a report in Mid-Day, has donated 50 Lakhs for the COVID19 relief fund. One of the sources also revealed that Sachin does not want to speak about it as he regularly contributes to relief funds during calamities. The source also said that Sachin had previously donated 25,000 Australian dollars towards the Bushfire relief camp.

India is currently under a 21-day lockdown

“He does not want to speak, he regularly contributes to relief funds during calamities. He has donated his entire salary as an MP to PM’s relief fund and also contributes regularly to the NGO Apnalaya,” the source was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

Out of INR 50 lakhs, half of the amount has been contributed towards the Chief Minister’s relief fund in Maharashtra- a state which is steadily emerging to be the epicenter of the pandemic COVID-19.

India is currently under a 21-day lockdown post Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation on March 23 and the Master Blaster has been pretty active on social media where he can be seen urging people to help to stay at home and follow all the guidelines that the government and health experts are giving.

“Our government and health experts have requested us to stay at home & not venture out. Yet many people are doing so.  My family & I are at home, will not be stepping out for the next 21 days. I request you all to do the same,” tweeted Tendulkar.
