Sachin Tendulkar hands over cap to English domestic cricketer
Nick Gubbins is a prolific domestic run-getter but is yet to play for the English national side.
Any cricketer would pray his stars to get his debut cap from the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, he hasn’t handed a cap to an Indian cricketer yet after his retirement but a certain English batsman Nick Gubbins is the lucky one who was given his maiden cap by the Indian legend.
Sachin was seen on the commentary box as India thrashed their neighbours Pakistan on Sunday at Edgbaston, Birmingham. He attended a ceremony where he presented a ceremonial Middlesex cap to the English batsman Nick Gubbins.
The official Twitter handle of Middlesex Cricket uploaded the picture when the 44-year old legend can be seen handing the cap to the 23-year-old cricketer. Who is Nick Gubbins?
Gubbins is an English cricketer who represents Middlesex in the domestic circuit. He was the reason behind Middlesex’s Championship triumph in 2016. He has played 39 first-class matches and batted 67 times. He has a healthy average of 39 runs per inning. So far, he has struck 17 fifties and 5 centuries in first-class cricket. The best score of his cricketing career is a 201 not out against Lancashire in tough conditions at Lord’s.
He is yet to receive a national call-up. The England and Wales Cricket Boards (ECB) was planning to include him in the squad for the Test series against Bangladesh and India but later dropped the idea. Gubbins instead was called up for the England Lions squad. He is known for his sound temperament and ability to pace the innings.
Sachin has been busy of late ever since his movie Sachin: A Billion Dreams released. It is no shock to the cricket fraternity that like the 22 yards, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is making and breaking records on the silver screen as well. From the stadiums, the famous “Sachin….Sachin” chant is now reverberating on the theatres all over India.
