Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has joined the Reliance General Insurance’s Twitter campaign against child labor. Sachin became an addition to the supporters of the campaign that boasts of big names including Chess legend Vishwanathan Anand.

Reliance General Insurance has partnered with the NGO ‘Child Rights & You’, popularly known as CRY in their initiative. Company’s CEO Rakesh Jain said that they were committed to promoting safety for all children.

Director of CRY cited concerns about the growing rate of child labor in India. The major concern lies in the fact that it is the urban setup, that is seeing a high increase in child labor.

“In the urban setup, child labor has drastically increased by 53% in the last decade,” said CRY’s director Anita Bala Sharad.

“The company has partnered with Child Rights & You (CRY) to raise public awareness and help in the fight against child labor,” the company said in a statement.

The sad plight of child labor in the country is a growing concern for the entire nation. The company also stated that a staggering 5.8 million children, in the age group of 5-17 years, are currently employed as child laborers in India, which is the highest incidence of child labor amongst all the South Asian countries.

Sachin, after being associated with the campaign, tweeted: “Every child deserves to chase dreams. Let dreams be chased.”

Chess maestro Vishwanathan Anand was also happy about his association with the initiative. “Life is Like Chess. It changes with every move!,” Anand tweeted.

Some other notable names who joined the campaign are actress Soha Ali Khan, Mandira Bedi, and actor Kunal Khemu.
