January 2019 proved to be too special for Indian cricket. After bagging the Test series 2-1 Down Under for the first time, Virat Kohli’s team won the three-match ODI series by the same margin too, after conceding a lead. The victory is India’s first in an away bilateral series against Australia and the second overseas since the historic 5-1 drubbing of South Africa in their den early last year.

Wishes came in thick and fast for the Indian side following their overwhelming victory in the ODI series and among them was that of legend Sachin Tendulkar. A member of the Indian team that won a tri-series in Australia in 2007-08 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni which was also the best success for him in all his tours Down Under, Tendulkar tweeted praising Kedar Jadhav for his partnership with Dhoni.

The Master Blaster also lauded the veteran wicket-keeper-batsman for the anchoring role he played in the third match scoring 87 not out off 114 balls to guide his side home.

Chase similar to second ODI

India won the third game by 7 wickets chasing Australia’s score of 230 in what turned out to be a chase identical with the second match in Adelaide. On that occasion, MS Dhoni scored 55 in 54 balls and remained unbeaten till the end with Dinesh Karthik on the other end. The former India captain came out to bat at No.4 in Melbourne, a place earlier, and found a worthy partner in Jadhav who impressed by scoring 61 not out in his first game of the series.

Dhoni’s return to the form with a bang will now reduce the anxiety of the management by far since his inclusion in the team in the place of the young and in-form Rishabh Pant did not seem convincing to many. The wicket-keeper batsman’s three successive fifties earned him the player of the series tag and it will certainly boost his confidence ahead of the five-ODI series starting against New Zealand in less than a week’s time.
