Sachin Tendulkar mocks new rules after ICC shares his impressive partnership record with Sourav Ganguly
The duo also holds the record of stitching the highest opening partnership for India.
Every Indian fan still remembers the Sachin Tendulkar-Sourav Ganguly pair walking in the middle and winning matches for India. Tendulkar and Ganguly built many match-winning stands and etched their name in the heart of every Indian fan. Every cricket fanatic still remembers the sight of ‘Master Blaster’ and ‘Dada’ steering India to many flying starts. Both have retired from the sport for many years now, but they still reminisce the bond which they once shared on and off the field.
In the 176 One Day International innings which they played together, Tendulkar and Ganguly amassed 8227 runs, which are one of the best numbers in the opening position. The two stitched runs at an average of 47.55 and what’s more impressive is that no other pair has crossed even 6,000-run mark in One-day Internationals.
ICC, on Tuesday, hailed the pair’s impressive opening stats on Twitter. “Sachin Tendulkar + Sourav Ganguly in ODIs: Partnerships: 176, Runs: 8227, Average: 47.55. No other pair has crossed even 6,000 runs together in ODIs,” tweeted ICC along with a picture of the two.
Tendulkar, in reply, took a sly dig at ICC’s new rules. The Indian legend asked the fans if he and Ganguly would’ve smashed more runs with the restriction of 4 fielders outside the ring and 2 new balls.
Tendulkar tweeted, “This brings back wonderful memories Dadi. How many more do you think we would’ve been able to score with the restriction of 4 fielders outside the ring and 2 new balls?”
Ganguly, in no time, responded to Sachin’s tweet about ICC’s restrictions and said that the duo would’ve added 4000 runs or so in that case.
“Another 4000 or so ..2 new balls..wow .. sounds like a cover drive flying to the boundary in the first over of the game.. for the remaining 50 overs,” tweeted Ganguly.
Sachin-Ganguly also stitched highest opening partnership for India
The duo also holds the record of stitching the highest opening partnership for India. In a clash against Kenya at the Boland Park in 2001, Tendulkar and Ganguly wreaked havoc at the bowling force and amassed a 258-run stand for the opening wicket. Ganguly scored 111 off 124 deliveries while Sachin smashed 146 off 132 balls to steer India to a massive total of 351/3.
Along with sharing an impressive partnership record, Tendulkar and Ganguly also boast an exemplary personal record in the ODI format. In a career spanning over 463 ODIs, Tendulkar amassed 18426 runs at an average of 44.83, including 49 tons and 96 half-centuries. The Master Blaster is regarded as one of the most successful batsmen to have braced the game.
Talking about Ganguly, the former Indian skipper was known for his aggressive on-field approach. Due to his overseas captaincy record, Ganguly is credited for the reinforcement of Team India. In 311 ODIs, the left-hander amassed 11363 runs that included 22 tons and 72 half-centuries.
