‘Sachin Tendulkar or Brian Lara?’ – Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis pick whose mind they would want to read
While Sachin Tendulkar has scored 100 international centuries in international cricket, Brian Lara has scored 53.
Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara are arguably the greatest batters of all time. Not only are their records unmatched, but their impact on the game is well and truly inspirational. However, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were asked to pick between the two batting greats.
The Windies legend as well as the Indian batting maestro managed to win several games for their respective sides singlehandedly. While the “Prince” of the West Indies Lara, finished his international career with 22,358 runs, the “God Of Cricket” Tendulkar still remains the leading run-getter in the history of cricket with 34,357 runs.
On the other hand, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were absolute gems for their team. The Pakistani duo held several records to their name as well. As both of them have bowled to Lara and Tendulkar, they’d know how difficult it was to dismiss them.
Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis pick Brian Lara over Sachin Tendulkar
The Pakistani pace legends were recently asked to pick between Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara on the Cricket Mania Show for 23News. Both of them went for the left-handed batter from the West Indies. The former left-arm seamer even said that he would love to read Lara’s mind.
Akram said, “Whose mind would I want to read? I suppose for me to read someone’s mind, it has to be of some greats of the game. Maybe, Brian Charles Lara because I would want to figure how can I get him out. What is going through his head.”
Younis felt that it was difficult to choose between the two. He also mentioned the fact that he has played with a lot of legends. “It is a difficult one. We played with a lot of legends. My friend here (Wasim) is a legend of the game. I would like to be in his mind when he used to bowl.” said Waqar.
While the 50-year-old said that Lara was the toughest batter he has ever bowled to, His bowling partner on the other hand said that the former New Zealand skipper Martin Crowe was the toughest batter he had ever bowled to.
