Sachin Tendulkar pays heartwarming tribute to childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar on Guru Purnima

Indians on Friday (23 July) celebrated Guru Purnima. While various prominent personalities took to social media to thank their Gurus for their success in the respective fields, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to remember his coach Ramakant Achrekar. The former right-hand batter has always been grateful for the contribution and the role Achrekar played in his cricketing career.

It was during his association with his coach that Tendulkar honed his batting skills and became one of the best batters the game has seen. Whenever he seems to have encountered any dip in the batting form, the now 48-year-old always used to go to coach for Achrekar for advice related to batting.

When Tendulkar announced his retirement in 2013, he made sure to pay tribute to ‘Achrekar sir’ and his calming influence on his glorious 24-long career for India.

And on account of Guru Purnima too, the 48-year-old took to Twitter and paid a heartwarming tribute to him, who breathed his last 2nd January 2019. In a short video uploaded by Tendulkar, he can be seen putting red roses beneath the photo of Achrekar. He also folded his hands and touched his photo.

Sachin Tendulkar wishes the Indian contingent for the Olympics

Tendulkar was also in news recently for wishing the Indian contingent who will battle it out in the Tokyo Olympics. He posted an inspiring message on Twitter and wished all the athletes ahead of the showpiece event which got underway on July 23.

“I would like to congratulate Team India’s Olympians who’ve made it to the prestigious Tokyo 2020 games,” Tendulkar said in a video posted by the Olympics website.

“You have worked hard many, many years made professional and personal sacrifices, and continued to train despite facing difficult circumstances. But now the moment has come.”

India has 127 players and a total of 228 members including, the support staff present in Tokyo.  There are plenty of hopes and optimism among billions of people that India will perform well and improve their previous best showing in the 2012 London Olympics. Former shooting Gold medalist Abhinav Bindra feels India are favorites to bag more medals this year.
