When it comes to the country, legend Sachin Tendulkar is never short of commitment. It was for 24 years that the man continuously did it for his country on the ground and today, even after five years of hanging up the spikes, the former captain doesn’t hesitate whenever there is an opportunity. On Sunday, millions witnessed the 45-year-old rising to the occasion, once more.

Tendulkar is also hurt by the dastardly attack on a CRPF convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district that martyred over 40 personnel. Like several of his countrymen though he felt it would not be right to boycott Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup and rather the arch-rivals should be handed a defeat in the tournament. The former batsman also conceded that he would respect the decision the country takes and will stand by it.

What would happen in the WC is still not known. But Sachin Tendulkar hasn’t let go any opportunity that has come his way to pay tributes to the Pulwama martyrs and help their grief-stricken families. On Sunday, he joined thousands of runners in New Delhi Marathon and helped raise Rs 15 lakh for the martyrs’ kin.

Before the racing events started at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Tendulkar, the highest run-getter in international cricket, did 10 push-ups as part of the #KeepMoving Push-up Challenge and urged the participants to join him in the exercise.

“Whatever will be the fund that we receive from here, it will all be donated for a good cause, a bigger cause. It will be donated to the families of the martyrs. I am sure you understand the feelings and hope everyone joins us in this movement,” Times of India cited reports as quoting Tendulkar.

Thousands of runners took part in the four races that were held on the occasion, including a 42-plus km full marathon, 21-plus km marathon, timed 10 km run and 5 km Swachch Bharat Run. The marathon was flagged off by the former cricketer.

Tendulkar praised the kids for participating

The former great was particularly impressed to see the number of children participating in the event. He praised the kids saying it was good to see them not getting intimidated by seeing so many adults around. “You are the next generation who will take over the reins of our nation,” he said.
