The ODI series between England and India recently came to a close. The hosts won the last match at Headingley in Leeds and clinched the series 2-1. Eoin Morgan and Co lost the T20I series 2-1 and were desperate to make amends for the defeat. They were the number one ranked team in ODI cricket and were expected to give the Indians a run for their money in the 50-overs format.

In the first match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, Virat Kohli’s men outplayed their opponents in all the departments. Kuldeep Yadav picked up a six wicket-haul to inflict mayhem in English batting lineup. During the run chase, Rohit Sharma accomplished his second century of the UK-tour to guide his team past the finishing line with as many as 59 balls to spare.

England’s comprehensive victories

The Brits made a strong statement at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground with a resounding victory by 86 runs. Joe Root’s 12th ODI ton and David Willey’s maiden fifty in the format helped England rack up a massive score on the board. The Men in Blue lost wickets at regular intervals during the run chase and were never in contention to chase down the mammoth target.

The last match also turned out to be a one-sided affair as the Three Lions won by eight wickets. Some resolute bowling from the Englishmen restricted the visiting team to 256/8 in 50 overs after which Joe Root’s 13th ton in the format and Morgan’s second fifty got England over the line.

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian cricketer, reckons that the home team is the deserving winner. He also hailed Adil Rashid, Joe Root and the English skipper in his congratulatory message.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “Congratulations, @englandcricket on winning the match and the series. You played better cricket in the last two games and deserved to win. @AdilRashid03’s 3 crucial wickets were the key. Also, solid stuff from @root66 and @Eoin16. Match winning partnership. #ENGvsIND”
