Sachin Tendulkar reveals the two biggest regrets of his cricket career

Unarguably one of the finest to have ever graced the sport of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar is the most accomplished and successful batter in cricket history. One hundred international centuries, 200 Test matches, 463 ODIs, over 34,000 international runs in a career spanning over 24 years, there is barely a major record the Master Blaster does not hold.

The most capped player in cricket history, Tendulkar also holds the record of scoring the first-ever double century in 50-over cricket, a format in which he amassed 18,463 runs, including 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries, all more than any other international player. The king of ODI cricket, Sachin ruled the longest format of the game for two and a half decades too, accumulating a staggering 15,921 runs with 51 centuries and 68 half-centuries, all three record numbers stamped against his name.

Having won uncountable series and tournaments, Sachin was and will always remain the most decorated cricketer. While one would feel that there cannot be any regrets for a man with such immense success, there are a couple of things that the Little Masters rues missing, which he revealed in a recent interaction with cricket.com.

I regret never playing with Sunil Gavaskar, Viv Richards: Sachin Tendulkar

It is a well-known fact that Tendulkar looked up to the legendary Sunil Gavaskar in his early days. “I have two regrets. The first is that I have never played with Sunil Gavaskar. Mr Gavaskar was my batting hero when I grew up and not playing with him as part of a team remains a regret. Mr Gavaskar retired a couple of years before I made my debut,” Tendulkar said.

Speaking about the other regret, Tendulkar stated that while he was fortunate to have played against his childhood hero Sir Vivian Richards in county cricket, he never had the privilege to play against him at the international stage.

“My other regret is not having played against my childhood hero Sir Vivian Richards. I was fortunate to have played against him in county cricket, but I still rue not being able to play against him in an international match. Even though Sir Richards retired in 1991 and we have a couple of years overlapping in our careers, we did not get to play against each other,” he added.

After an unmatched career that lasted 24 years and a day, Tendulkar bid goodbye to cricket in 2013, with the majority of his records still standing intact.
