Ramakant Achrekar has won a lot of laurels in his illustrious coaching career which includes the Dronacharya Award, the Padma Shri and also a Lifetime Achievement Award by Sports Illustrated. However, the country owes him the most for providing the nation with an absolute genius named Sachin Tendulkar who went on to conquer the world of cricket.
The main story:
On the prosperous occasion of teacher’s day, Sachin Tendulkar took to his official Twitter account to narrate an incident involving Ramakant Achrekar. He shared a video where he throws light to a life lesson he was taught by his coach who is now 85 years old. Sachin goes back through the time machine and mentions that he used to play for the school’s junior team when Achrekar asked him to play a practice match after his classes. incidentally, the school’s senior team was also playing a final on the very same day at the Wankhede Stadium.
The Master Blaster went on to reveal that he chose to bunk the practice match in which he just to had to bat at the number 4 position while there was no need for him to field according to Achrekar’s word with the skipper of the team. Sachin chose to be present in the stands of the Wankhede and cheer for the seniors who were playing a tournament final. When he met Achrekar at the stadium, Sachin went up to Achrekar to wish the man he respected the most.
Achrekar asked Tendulkar that how many runs did he score in today’s practice match. As an answer, Sachin said that he opted to cheer for the senior team from the stands instead of being present at the match. Achrekar gave him a firing in front of the people present there because of his sense of irresponsibility and lack of decision. Achrekar also pointed out that he need not cheer for other but should take care of his cricket and the world will cheer for him. Sachin stated that the lesson he learnt that day was the most crucial one in his life and he has not missed a match ever since.
