Sachin Tendulkar takes a jibe at Rihanna and 'external forces'; Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma echo his sentiments
Rihanna had brought international attention to the farmer's protest in India
A day after international music icon Rihanna brought the world’s attention to the farmer’s protest in the country, several stars of the Indian cricket gave their voice on the matter on Twitter. Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was the first to come out to post his tweet, while other players like Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, followed the suit.
The incident started when music star Rihanna and climate activist Greta Thunberg tried to bring international attention to the ongoing farmer’s protest in the country. The general opinion of the star cricketers was that people outside the country are trying to divide us. They urged Indians to stay together during these tough times.
Tendulkar joined in the ‘India against propaganda’ after many social media sites were sharing all sorts of unverified information regarding the matter. Tendulkar, in his tweet, called out for the external forces to be just a spectator and not a participant. “India’s sovereignty cannot be compromised. External forces can be spectators but not participants. Indians know India and should decide for India. Let’s remain united as a nation,” Tendulkar said in a tweet.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma extended support to Sachin Tendulkar’s cause
After the batting legend, Indian captain Virat Kohli also gave his opinion along with his Test deputy, Ajinkya Rahane and limited-overs vice-captain, Rohit Sharma. Kohli wrote on Twitter, “Let us all stay united in this hour of disagreements. Farmers are an integral part of our country and I’m sure an amicable solution will be found between all parties to bring about peace and move forward together.”
The matter has been talked about in socio-political discussions in the country as of now. However, the international attention towards the matter has made several celebrities from the country jump in and gave their opinion. The general idea was to tell the citizens that it is time for us to stay united rather than getting divided amongst ourselves.
Some cricketers also pointed out how important farming is for our society. Rahane also expressed that there is no problem which can’t be resolved if the entire nation stays together and tries to solve it. He wrote, “There’s no issue that cannot be resolved if we stand together as one. Let’s remain united and work towards resolving our internal issues”
