The Indian team led by Virat Kohli did not manage to come unscathed in the decider against New Zealand despite getting off to a good start in the game. At one point, the contest certainly looked like it was on New Zealand’s side and the visitors threw away the game as the home team managed to snatch a close match by six runs in Kanpur.

Chasing 338 runs as a target, the Kiwi side put up a brave display with a decent enough start before the middle-order stepped up the game. It was certainly Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls, who took the match right down to the wire with contributions from the left-handed spinner Mitchell Santner.

Batting maestro and Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar tweeted, “Splendid batting performance by @Imro45 and @imVkohli. Looks like this match is going to have a tight finish. Hope we can finish well.”

The goof-up:

What was surprising about the tweet was that master blaster’s tweet appeared on Monday morning, hours after the end of the match against the Kiwis. The goof-up led to Twitterati trolling the legend left-right and centre, with a few suggesting that the timing of the tweet was not as good as the timing of his shots during his playing days.

One Twitter user by the name ‘Abishek’ wrote, ‘We will win this match by 6 Runs. Likh ke lelo. #INDvNZ’, while another suggested Tendulkar to change his television set-up box.

Earlier, centuries from skipper Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma who were also involved in a mammoth 230-run stand helped the hosts post 337/6 in 50 overs after New Zealand, wary of the dew factor later in the evening, elected to field at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium. Jasprit Bumrah’s tidy last over where he gave away just six runs helped India to a series win.
