The upcoming edition of the Pro Kabaddi league is all set to add new heroes to the Indian Kabaddi landscape. Adding to the existing eight franchises, 4 new teams have been added to the roster making it the biggest ever edition of the sport. Marking their geographical expansion, the upcoming season will feature 12 franchises from 11 states and host over 130 matches.
Co-owner of the new entrants Tamil Thalaivas, Sachin Tendulkar recently revealed in a press conference that he wants former Indian captain MS Dhoni as a defender in his team. Dhoni has been a priority choice for many legends in their dream teams. However, when asked, who would he pick in his dream Kabaddi team, Sachin’s answer was Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Sachin also adjudged singer and music producer Shankar Mahadevan as the ideal choice for his dream team’s raider.
Speaking to the reporters at the event, the Master Blaster said, “If I have to get a defender – it will have to be MS Dhoni. He doesn’t miss much and would be great in that position. A raider is someone who has to hold his breath. When it comes to holding your breath, I don’t think anyone can match (singer) Shankar Mahadevan,” Sachin said.
Ajay Thakur to lead the side
Tendulkar also thanked film actor Kamal Haasan, the team’s brand ambassador for being present at the event and for supporting kabaddi and the franchise. Hasan too was delighted to see the ‘god of cricket’ being so passionate about another sport.
Other owners of the franchise including Allu Aravind, Allu Arjun, and Ram Charan were also present at the gala event and thanked Tendulkar and Haasan for backing a traditional sport like Kabaddi. The captain and coach were also unveiled during the function.
The team will be led by Ajay Thakur and coached by K Baskaran, who are among the best in the league.
