Sachin Tendulkar's congratulatory message for MS Dhoni is pure gold
Dhoni became the first cricketer in the history of ODI cricket to effect 100 stumpings.
Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni entered the record books yet again when he stumped Akila Dananjaya off the bowling of Yuzvendra Chahal in the fifth ODI against Sri Lanka. With the stumping, Dhoni became the first cricketer in the history of ODI cricket to effect 100 stumpings. Dhoni had a brilliant game behind the stumps. He was involved in as many as 4 dismissals during the Sri Lankan innings.
This included a run out, a stumping, and two catches. The good wishes and congratulatory messages came in flooding for the former Indian captain. Among the several wishes that he received, the one from legendary former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the best one. Sachin took to social media platform Twitter to congratulate MS Dhoni on his achievement.
He used the best possible adage to relate to the effectiveness of Dhoni behind the stumps. In the current world cricket scenario, Dhoni is indeed the quickest wicket-keeper, if seen on the broader scale. The speed with which he knocks off the stumps and completes the stumpings remains unmatched. Also, most of the wicket-keepers in world cricket see him as the benchmark for success behind the stumps.
In addition to this, Dhoni’s witty presence of mind often sees team India reap benefits with quick stumpings and unusual run outs. The thing that works well for Dhoni is that unlike other wicket-keepers, he does not recoil back after collecting the ball and thus saves that fraction of time.
No wonder why his stumpings are ‘lightning quick’. It was this very comparison that Sachin Tendulkar used in his congratulatory tweet for MS Dhoni. He wrote that he has seen lightning strike a hundred times. Hence, this clearly defies the age old adage.
Sachin’s tweet
“Who said lightning doesn’t strike twice? Today it did for the 100th time! Well done, @msdhoni! Keep them coming :-)” tweeted Sachin Tendulkar.
