'Sad to hear about the tragedy' - Kapil Sharma pays condolences to Suresh Raina's family
Kapil also requested the Punjab Police to look into this matter immediately so that the culprits can be punished for their horrible deeds.
The three-time champion Chennai Super Kings are battling against the tough times ahead of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League, which is all set to kick-start from September 19, with the final to take place on November 10. Firstly, 13 members of the CSK contingent including pacer Deepak Chahar and right-handed batsman Ruturaj Gaekwad tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Adding to the misery, their mainstream batsman Suresh Raina abruptly decided to pull out his name from the cash-rich league and returned home citing personal reasons. Various speculations were floating in the cricket world regarding Raina’s exit from the league. Reports suggested that his extended family were attacked by the anonymous assailants in Pathankot while some reports read that the swashbuckling batsman was worried for his toddlers seeing the rise in the COVID-19 cases in CSK’s camp.
There were also reports that suggested that Raina was upset with the team management for not giving him a room with a balcony like MS Dhoni. However, putting an end to all the speculations and rumours regarding his return, the 33-year-old took to Twitter to clarify his stance.
The cricketer tweeted: “What happened to my family is Punjab was beyond horrible. My uncle was slaughtered to death, my bua & both my cousins had severe injuries. Unfortunately my cousin also passed away last night after battling for life for days. My bua is still very very critical & is on life support (sic)”
In another tweet, Raina added, “Till date we don’t know what exactly had happened that night & who did this. I request @PunjabPoliceInd to look into this matter. We at least deserve to know who did this heinous act to them. Those criminals should not be spared to commit more crimes. @capt_amarinder @CMOPb (sic)”
