When Saeed Ajmal turned 39 earlier this month, not many would have given him the green signal to make his way back into the labyrinth of international cricket. Having been frozen out of the Pakistan team along with Shahid Afridi, it seems as though Ajmal is one of the few players who believes that he can find his way back into the side.

Saeed Ajmal was frozen out of the side earlier this year following a few torrid performances as well as a well-documented loss in form. Moreover, the fact of the matter remained that he was one of the few players within the Pakistan side who did not get the farewell they deserved. Earlier, Ajmal was one of those players who was denied a farewell match apart from Shahid Afridi.

“No matter what anyone says. No matter what anyone thinks. I have confidence in my own abilities and I know I deserve another shot at international cricket,” Ajmal said in an interview.

Ajmal also sounded victimized when he revealed that he was one of the leading wicket-takers in the English County Championship, something that has been ignored by the Pakistani selectors in recent times. However, at the moment, the Pakistanis have deployed just the lone wolf for their spinning needs in the form of Yasir Shah. Ajmal is also retained by Islamabad United in the PSL.

“I don’t know what more to do I was top wicket-taker in the English T20 event and in the national T20 championship held recently. I am bowling well in domestic cricket. The selectors need to acknowledge my efforts,” he said.

“I want to go out wearing the Pakistan colors because I don’t want to disappoint my fans and supporters who have always encouraged me. I just want to be given a chance to prove myself again. If I can’t deliver I wouldn’t complain again,” he said.
