Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal has officially bid adieu to cricket after his team Faisalabad lost the semi-final in the ongoing National T20 Cup. He had announced his retirement from all forms of cricket earlier this month and had cleared that he would stop playing cricket after the conclusion of the T20 tournament. However, his teammates cannot provide a fairytale ending to his career and lost the semi-final against Lahore Whites.
Ajmal was one of the best bowlers Pakistan had ever produced and ruled the batsmen all over the world when he was at the peak of his career. However, the juggernaut stopped when he was banned twice by International Cricket Council for illegal bowling action. Though he fought back and returned to the International fold with a remodelled action, he was never effective as before and eventually fell out of the contention for the national team.
Ajmal Economical in his last game
Saeed Ajmal was extremely economical in the last game of his career against Lahore Whites and returned with the figures of 1/13 from his four overs. His wily off-spin bowling helped his team restrict the opposition to 142 and they had a realistic chance of qualifying for the final. But the batsmen blew away the chances as they failed to put up any resistance with the bat and were bundled out for just 132. The veteran failed with the bat however and bagged a golden duck.
Soon after the handshakes between the teams were over, all the players from both the teams formed a guard of honour as the legendary bowler walked off from the field for one final time. He was emotional with the gesture from the players but deserved every bit of it. He scalped eight wickets in the tournament across 8 matches and was economical throughout the competition. The video of his farewell has been viral on social media as cricket will miss his off-spin bowling forever.
