It is true that Indian cricketers are very well paid by their employers. They not only have appearance fee for the matches but their contracts consist of various bonuses according to their performance. A Reddit user posted something surprising the other day when he claimed that the Indian players earn 91 times their national income.
Yes, you read that right, 91 times the per capita income of the country. Now, per capita income is the average income of one person in a country in a year. Indian players earn 91 times the average earning of the overall population of the country.
The additional bonuses mentioned are really on a high it seems. The Redditor explaining it and wrote, “I have chosen the retainer fee component of the central contract as the headline figure. In addition to this, players generally earn appearance fee for each match that the play. Some contracts (such as India’s) have performance related bonuses too.”
Some of you might be wondering what the retainer fee component is, well it is the value of highest contract of each country excluding captain bonuses.

Every country pays their players differently, England and Australia pay differently, India pays differently even New Zealand pay differently but every country pays well. If we look at the table we will understand that among the top teams only New Zealand pay their players least that is 4 times of their national income while every other board pays more than 10 times of their national income.
Contracts of the Black Caps are decided on their performances from the previous year and the captain. Kane Williamson holds the highest contract as of now.
Australia and England pay all their players the same except the captain. If you have a contract with England Cricket Board (ECB) and you are not the captain of the side then you will earn the same amount of money as Joe Root. ECB is the best when it comes to the salaries of the players and Australia is termed the richest cricketing country.
Indian players, on the other hand, have three grades of contracts, grade A, B and C. There are only a few players added to the list of Grade A contract every year and they are the bigger names in the team the likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and others.
