Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt is hopeful of wearing Pakistan jersey yet again in his controversial cricketing career. This is not the first time he has expressed his willingness after returning to cricket albeit only in the domestic circuit. He was banned in 2010 after being caught in the spot-fixing saga during the tour of England along with Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif. However, Amir has made his successful return at the highest level but the other two have been ignored by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) so far.
To be fair to the 32-year-old cricketer, he is piling up the runs in the domestic arena and is striving hard on his part to make a come back. He was not picked by any of the franchise in the player draft of Pakistan Super League (PSL) as well. He has time and again let his frustration out now for not being given the opportunity to represent his country. Butt had played 33 Tests, 78 ODIs and 24 T20Is before he was banned seven years ago.
I am working hard for last seven years
Salman Butt has been vocal about his performance in the first-class cricket in recent times and also has asked the cricket board for not being picked so far. Recently he also claimed of being hurt after he was ignored in the PSL draft by all the franchises. “I want to utilise my form and fitness for Pakistan team. The motivation to play [international cricket] again keeps me going. I have been working extremely hard for the past seven years to prove myself,” he said while speaking to Geo News.
While Pakistan is currently missing a solid top-order player in Tests, it remains to be seen if the selectors opt for Butt who feels he still has a lot of cricket left in him. He has also expressed his disappointment frequently for receiving vague answers from the officials of the board. Salman was the captain of the Test team when he committed the crime and one would believe that he himself is to be blamed for his current situation.
