Indians at all corner of the globe were ecstatic on Sunday as their national cricket side humbled arch-rivals Pakistan in a crucial game at ICC World Cup 2019. Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed won the toss and sent India to bat first in under overcast conditions hoping that his bowlers would make early inroads. But that was not to be as the Indian openers came up with a strong partnership exceeding hundred runs.

Then captain Virat Kohli slammed 77 to ensure that India reached a mammoth 336 for 5 in 50 overs. Pakistan were in the hunt when Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam made a century partnership but it was all over when that partnership was broken by Kuldeep Yadav. Pakistan’s innings was disrupted by rain in the 35th over when they were 166 for 6 and when they returned, the score was 302 in 40 overs which was beyond all possibility.

Pakistan ended up at 212 for 6 to lose by 89 runs in DLS Method. India’s seventh consecutive victory in the World Cup over the arch-rivals left all rejoicing and Bollywood superstar Salman Khan also didn’t miss out. The 53-year-old actor tweeted congratulating Kohli’s men and he did it on behalf of ‘Bharat’ – his latest release which has been raking in the moolah.

‘Bharat’ released this Eid in over 4,000 screens and the Ali Abbas Zafar directorial was expected to smash all boxoffice records. Although the film did well, yet analysts felt it was not on the track really to set up new benchmarks. Besides Salman, the film also features Katrina Kaif, his leading lady in films like ‘Ek Tha Tiger’.

India continues to be in top 4, Pakistan in survival battle

Coming back to cricket, India continued to remain in the top four of the tournament with their third win in four games. Virat Kohli’s side remains one of the two teams that is yet to lose a match in the competition, other than New Zealand. India’s match against the Blackcaps was washed out and they next play Afghanistan on June 22. Pakistan, on the other hand, have now lost their third game out of five and will have to win their remaining four encounters if they fancy a spot in the semi-finals.
