Sam Billings suffers shoulder injury; doubtful for Ireland ODI and Pakistan T20I
Both the series are scheduled to start in May.
Sam Billings’ hopes of hitting the ground in domestic circuit took a disappointing blow as he lasted just a handful of minutes on the crease because of a shoulder injury. Billings was playing for his county side Kent against Glamorgan at Cardiff when he suffered the injury. Billings is now reportedly in danger of missing the one-off ODI against Ireland on May 3. The right-handed batsman had recently returned to England after his stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Representing Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Billings played just one game and that too because MS Dhoni was injured. And Billings did little to show that the team-management was wrong to keep him on the bench as he grabbed a duck. He will now have to wait for a considerable period of time to do well on the field once again after injuring his shoulder. The Kent skipper appeared to dislocate his shoulder while trying to stop the ball in the very first over of the match.
As soon as he fell, he was seen grimacing in pain. According to reports in ESPNCricinfo, he was left prone on the outfield for several minutes, and treated with oxygen before being taken off the park. Billings, meanwhile, is not a part of England’s World Cup squad. However, he was in line to play against Ireland and was also a part of the squad for the one-off T20I against Pakistan on May 5.
Injury crisis for England:
Billings is the latest high profile name in English to suffer injury. Before Billings, two of England’s World Cup-bound players – Jason Roy and Joe Denly – suffered injuries too. Roy suffered a back spasm while playing for Surrey while Denly suffered the same injury while batting against Gloucestershire last week.
England captain Eoin Morgan also missed out on a game for Middlesex due to sore shins. On the other hand, opener Alex Hales has taken an indefinite break from the game.
