Samit Patel to play for Wellington in the Super Smash

Samit Patel has had a sensational domestic season this year. He went on to receive the ‘Player Of The Year’ title at the Professional Cricketers’ Awards in October. Now, Wellington has roped in the services of the English all-rounder. After having won the Super Smash title last year, Wellington will be looking forward to replicate their success with Samit Patel on board this time around.

Currently representing the Rajshahi Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Samit will join Wellington after the tournament. The Super Smash will supposedly commence from the 13th of December. Wellington will kickstart their campaign against Northern Districts on the 15th of December.

Excited to have Samit fill the role of a quality all-rounder

Wellington’s coach Bruce Edgar was glad to have an experienced all-rounder like Samit Patel in their ranks. He looked forward to the club playing some positive cricket ahead of the tournament.

“For the upcoming campaign, we identified a need to complement our squad with a quality all-rounder. With a career featuring more than 200 T20 matches, including 18 internationals, and impressive strike rates with both bat and ball, we’re excited to have Samit joining the team to fill that role,” Edgar said.

His recent exploits for the Nottinghamshire

Playing for Nottinghamshire, the 32-year-old has made sublime contributions in their title wins. Nottinghamshire went on to win both the major limited-over tournaments – the Royal London Cup as well as the Natwest T20 Blast.

Patel displayed tremendous form for Nottinghamshire as he was their leading run-scorer. Not only did he produce stupendous knocks with the bat, but he was also equally effective with the ball. He took crucial wickets at various important junctures for the team. They gained a promotion in the County Championship as a result of their fabulous run.
