Sanath Jayasuriya visits Peshawar Army Public School: Former Sri Lankan cricketer and demolishing batsman, Sanath Jayasuriya on 31st July visited the terror-hit Army Public school (APS) in Peshawar. The 46-year old also visited the Corps Headquarter Peshawar and met with Corps Commander Lieutenant General Hidayat ur Rehman on Friday.

On 16 December 2014, there was a ruthless attack on the school by Talibani terrorists. In the incident as many as 150 had died which included 134 children while 124 were injured. It was one of the most horrendous incidents ever on the land of Pakistan as it included causalities mostly of small aged and school going children, the future of the nation.

The whole of Pakistan as well as the world was moved and mourned following the blistering terror attack. Though the school was closed following the attack for some days but with the bravura and courage of the local people, the school reopened on January 12, 2015 with all the students coming to the school in high spirits which was a slap on the face of all the anti-social elements who play with peace disrupt peace and harmony of the nation.

Many high level personalities had also visited APS to lift the determination and grit of the kids. Similarly, today Sanath Jayasuriya in a bid to pay tribute to the children who were deceased in APS, visited the school and he also presented floral wreath at graves of the innocent students of the Peshawar Army Public School.

The former Sri Lankan captain mentioned it on Facebook, “To pay my respects to the more than 100 children who were innocent victims of the deadliest terrorist attack in Pakistan. May their beautiful souls rest in peace! Emotional day for me.”

Sanath Jayasuriya had retired from international cricket in 2011. The Left-hander represented Sri Lanka in 586 international matches and accumulated 21,032 runs.
