The third day of the Cape Town test which is in progress at the moment between South Africa and Australia was indeed a dark day for cricket as the Aussies were caught red-handed trying to change the condition of the ball with an outside substance which is completely prohibited in the laws of the game.
The Twitterati, however, saw the lighter side of it as usual. While they first bashed Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft. for being dishonest to their profession, they soon got back to what they always do which is to create memes and have fun with the situation. A number of memes surfaced trolling the Australian cricketers and some of them were extremely hilarious.
The Australian captain Steve Smith obviously was in the forefront of it as it was all done under his knowledge which was shameful to say the least and what made it worse is the fact that Smith has a history of doing unethical things on the cricket field. In the last test series against India, the 28-year old was caught seeking dressing room’s help in deciding whether to send the on-field umpire’s decision upstairs or not which was again illegal as per ICC’s rulebook.
Smith got away with it back then as he called it a brain-fade and insisted that it was one of those things which only happened in the heat of the moment. However, yesterday’s event has certainly put a big question mark over his character as people are now relating the ball-tampering incident to the brain-fade incident, wondering what Smith did in India was actually a brain-fade or was a deliberate ploy.
Since it was the Indian captain Virat Kohli who had picked upon Smith on the ground when he sought the dressing room’s suggestion for the review last year, he featured in a lot of memes as well, with the Twitterati jokingly claiming that Kohli will be enjoying it all from somewhere as he has finally been proven correct.
Here are some of the best memes/gifs-
